1 oz Tecumseh BU Silver Round 2026

Tecumseh, the legendary Shawnee chief whose name evoked a “shooting star” blazing across the sky, emerged as one of North America’s most visionary Indigenous leaders in the early 19th century. Born around 1768 in the Ohio Valley amid the violent encroachment of white settlers, he witnessed his father’s death at their hands and forged a fierce determination to resist.

Expanded description

A masterful orator and strategist, Tecumseh traveled vast distances to forge a pan-tribal confederacy, urging rival nations to set aside ancient feuds and unite against the relentless American expansion that threatened their lands, cultures, and very existence. “Sell a country!” he thundered.

“Why not sell the air, the great sea, as well as the earth?” His alliance with the British during the War of 1812 helped deliver stunning victories like the capture of Detroit, yet his dream of a sovereign Indigenous nation ended on the battlefield at the Thames River in 1813, where he fell fighting—his body vanishing into legend, but his spirit of defiance inspiring generation.
